To ensure that your Menorquín does not present anomalies in its operation, we will give you some advice below to avoid the deterioration that glands tend to present when they are not properly maintained.

The stuffing box is the element that prevents water from flowing through the passage of the shaft into the motor chamber (horn). This element is composed of a carbon ring, a rubber bellows and a cooling tube.

In this case, if your boat is not going to be used for a long period of time (3 months or more), it is recommended to slightly separate the carbon bearing from the stainless steel rotor to purge the glands before starting and to check the cooling tube for any leaks or anomalies.

The stuffing box bellows should be checked regularly, at least every six months under all circumstances. It must also be checked for any signs of friction, ageing, hardening or cracking. At any sign of deterioration, the bellows must be replaced.

These suggestions for the care of your Menorquín's stuffing box are part of the care indicated in the maintenance manual for each of the equipment delivered with the boat and must be put into practice for optimum preservation of the boat. We also advise you to have all maintenance work carried out by a team of professionals from your trusted boatyard.
